Beneficent, Merciful

The script reads, b-ismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīmi, "In the name of God, most beneficent, most merciful." It is the most common motif in Arabic calligraphy and one of the most repeated Islamic phrases in the world. I produced this particular calligraphy (my first ever) as a gift for a colleague from the office. The tree is from Riverside Park, Upper West Side, NYC. When the weather is nice, I go there during lunch to take a break from the office.

This attempt to find an echo between Islamic calligraphy and nature is somewhat tongue-in-cheek: the cyberspace is filled with websites that claim to see "Allah" written in nature, so I am playing on an already established theme here. On the other hand, starting anything with a bismillah is a time-honored tradition so why not start a blog this way?
